Q: How do we bring media and social justice together

Media can be used to highlight different issues, bring them to light, and push for change. Lessandro 'Junior' Guzman from the Bronx was brutally murdered by a local gang, due to a case of mistaken identity. Because of media, specifically social media, all of his killers were caught in less than a month and lawmakers are pushing to pass a new law to prevent what happened to Junior from happening again to someone else.

The 'Me Too' movement on twitter was initiated by actresses in Hollywood, who wanted to expose a well known director,Harry Weinstien's heinous sexual assaults on countless actresses. This helped them get justice, he had gotten persecuted, it helped his hidden victims that were too scared to come forward heal, and made it known to other sexual assault victims know that they weren't alone. It lets them know that sexual assault can happen to anyone, celebrities and regular people, and that its okay to come forward.

Q:Create an interesting pitch about the topic you are most passionate about.

My Topic: Violence

Tylik Allen. Vlana Roberts. Isaiah Joseph.

What do these 3 names have in common? They are three of many black and brown teenagers that were murdered and have yet to receive justice. All three are cases of unsolved violence, which is being ignored by the government; they ignore the murders of people of color from poor communities. If a white child is killed, their case is made a priority and is solved with a sense of quickness; if it's a black or brown  child gets killed, they rarely ever, if at all, receive justice.

This topic is worth the project because we all are affected by violence, whether it's personal or we know someone affected. Making these deaths more known and publicized can help the families heal and possibly bring perpetrators of this violence to justice.

Q:How do you feel the group pitch/presentation went? What went well and what could be improved?

I think the pitch and presentation went really well. We were able to make an interesting and convincing pitch for gentrification with the information we had. One thing I think we could've improved was the amount of information we had.  Even though we were trying to use Google as much as possible, we couldn't find that much information. If we had more information, the pitch would have came out better. Angel and I were able to bounce ideas off each other. While I wrote ideas we had and facts we already know, Angel googled facts, places, and possible experts such as census and building managers. I lead the pitch and we were able to go back and forth sharing and explaining our ideas

My idea for the final project is a documentary with all of us interviewing people getting their intake on what violence along with our experience within definition of  violence. We'd be able to see its affect on everyone and discuss ways we can end youth violence in our own lives. Simple things like breaking up fights and helping people communicate through their problems or helping the families torn up by violence  can help make a difference and  doing this documentary can be a way to do that.

The street interviews were kind of fun. I enjoyed understanding and reading how people felt about our topic. There were points where I picked up on their discomfort and uneasiness with talking to random kids or how certain questions made people uncomfortable. The question, 'what were some of your early experiences with violence' was one of the questions that made people uncomfortable.

I absolutely hated the production experience. After attempting this process for myself, I realized that you tubers don't get enough credit for what they do because the video editing process was so tedious and long; it might've been one of the hardest things I ever attempted. There were so many small nit picky stuff that, if you don't do, will mess up the entire video. There was too many moving parts and it's too confusing.

I'm starting to understand this process more. I learned things about violence that I didn't even know was possible. For example,  there is a rare gene combination that can make people  more likely to commit violent crimes. This makes me think that, at times violence can't be controlled because if one's gene codes for something, it's only a matter of time before it shows or it will show up in later generations. I also learned that violence is one of the main causes of death for Black, Latino, and Native American youth. This really shows how rough young people of color have it; many of us  don't live to see our 21st birthday.

The most interesting thing about our clip was that the former district attorney describes violence as being a hereditary thing. He claims that he was the only one in his family that wasn't a drunk or wife beater and that a child that is born to a sex abuser is more likely to become a sex abuser when they get older. The way he describes it makes me think that some of a parent's behaviors will be passed down to the child; an example is if the parent is a drug user, the child is likely to  be a drug user.

For me, the entire usage of adobe premiere is all too complicated. Youtubers don't get enough credit because this video editing thing is so hard. There were so many little factors and i got so lost  that I had let my partner, Angel, take over.
